1986 Education was Fr Kakuba’s priority; but the nearest school was 5 km away.

So classes began under a mango tree.

In 1987 the original, traditionally built Magejjo Primary School was opened and replaced by a sturdier brick structure in 1994. But in 1999 this school was destroyed by a lightning strike and haad to be rebuilt. It re-opened in 2001 with over 500 pupils.

Ground was levelled to make a sports pitch in 2002

In 2006 Sr Joan made her promise: she would raise the money for a porridge lunch for orphans if the villagers could provide the firewood. A cartload of firewood appeared the very next day.

In the same year, a borehole was constructed so water was available at school. Staff and pupils no longer had to spend part of the day wawlking to the springs and carrying jeyycans of water back.

2014 The Rise and Shine  Nursery was constructed by a team from DHL (Peterborough, ULK) and in 2016 they returned to build a latrine block.
